Neurotoxin injectables, most commonly known by brand names like Botox and Dysport, work by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that tell specific facial muscles to contract. When the muscle relaxes, the skin above it smooths out, reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles — the lines that form from years of repeated movement like squinting, frowning, or smiling.
The most commonly treated areas are the forehead, the vertical lines between the brows, the outer corners of the eyes, and the bunny lines on either side of the nose. Neurotoxin is also used for brow lifting, jaw slimming through targeted treatment of the masseter muscle, and managing excessive sweating in areas like the underarms and palms.
Results appear gradually over three to seven days as the muscle activity settles. Most patients find results last three to four months, after which muscle activity gradually returns and a follow-up appointment maintains the outcome.
