Understanding Your Treatment

What Is Lumecca IPL and How Does It Work?

Lumecca IPL uses broad-spectrum light energy to selectively target and break down two specific things in the skin: pigmentation and visible blood vessels. It does this without affecting the surrounding tissue.

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. Unlike a laser, which emits a single wavelength of light focused on one target, Lumecca delivers a broad spectrum of wavelengths filtered to reach two primary chromophores simultaneously — melanin, which is responsible for pigmentation, and haemoglobin, which gives blood vessels their colour. When the light energy is absorbed by these targets, it converts to heat, disrupting the targeted cells. The body then naturally breaks down and clears them over the following weeks. Pigmented spots fade, redness reduces, and overall skin tone becomes more even and luminous.

What distinguishes Lumecca from older IPL systems is its peak power output and built-in sapphire cooling, which allows it to deliver significantly higher energy density than earlier platforms while keeping the treatment comfortable and the surrounding skin protected. Many patients see significant improvement after just one or two sessions, making it one of the most efficient non-invasive options available for sun damage and pigmentation.

Common treatment areas include the face, neck, décolletage, hands, and arms.

Every treatment at Springs Body Sculpting is performed under the oversight of Dr. Dunham and our team of board-certified surgeons and trained estheticians, bringing extensive experience in cosmetic procedures to every session.

A Closer Look at Lumecca IPL Photofacial

What can Lumecca IPL Photofacial fix?

Lumecca is one of our most satisfying treatments to deliver because the improvement in skin clarity and evenness is visible quickly and the sessions are short.

Sun Damage & Hyperpigmentation - Springs Body Sculpting, Colorado Springs

Sun Damage & Hyperpigmentation

Sunspots, freckling, and uneven patches build up over the years and can leave your skin looking older and tired than it feels. Lumecca IPL targets this excess pigment with powerful light energy, lifting dark spots away to reveal a brighter, more even complexion.

Rosacea & Vascular Concerns - Springs Body Sculpting, Colorado Springs

Rosacea & Vascular Concerns

Redness, flushing, and visible broken capillaries can make your skin look irritated even when it feels fine. Lumecca IPL gently treats these vascular concerns at the source, calming persistent redness and restoring a clearer, more uniform tone.

Texture & Pore Size - Springs Body Sculpting, Colorado Springs

Texture & Pore Size

Rough patches, dullness, and enlarged pores can stop your skin from looking as smooth and refined as you’d like. Lumecca IPL stimulates fresh, healthy skin renewal, refining texture and leaving your complexion smoother, clearer, and more radiant.

Lumecca IPL Photofacial Treatment FAQs

When will I see results?

Because this treatment is performed as a series of consecutive treatments, results build upon one another with each session, creating a cumulative result by the end of your plan. We always do follow-up photos and measurements throughout your series to track and show your success.

Most patients see meaningful improvement after 1 to 2 sessions. More stubborn pigmentation may benefit from a third session spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Lumecca IPL works best on lighter skin tones. Patients with darker skin tones have a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Dr. Dunham and his team evaluate every patient’s skin type before recommending IPL.

Pigmented spots may temporarily darken and look more prominent in the first few days before they flake off and fade. This is normal and a sign the treatment is working.

Pricing depends on the areas treated and number of sessions. We offer financing through our partners.
